Convert SD Card to Save Your Memories

Some of our most treasured memories are kept on SD Cards that are sitting in drawers, never to be played again. Maybe they have precious photos or videos on them. Most people don’t realise that it’s not safe to rely on an SD card for long-term data storage, as they are prone to physical wear, data degradation and corruption from environmental factors and power interruptions.

You can change that by converting your SD Cards to digital files that can be stored on safer types of digital storage such as the cloud or SSD drives.

I needed two VHS and one Hi8 camcorder tape converted to digital format and I'm glad I found Supaphoto. What made me choose the company were the excellent reviews. I got an extremely fast response to my initial query and I was greeted by very friendly staff when I dropped my tapes off at the studio, and I was also very impressed with all of their specialised equipment they had. I wasn't looking for either the cheapest or quickest service but I was looking for a high quality service and Supaphoto are one of the few companies around that offer both excellent customer service and a high quality service. I look forward to using them again in the future which I certainly will be doing as I have more videos to convert plus some very old 1940s family photographs I'd like digitizing.

I've just had eight reels of childhood memories digitised from old 8mm film. The service and speed of Supaphoto is second to none. Friendly, fast, and focused on quality. I didn't even get to see the first run. It failed the quality standards and Supaphoto created a better version at no cost to me. I highly recommend Supaphoto.

A fantastic job. Recently widowed and found old slides of my husband. I was concerned about sending them off but needn't have worried. Great results and nice to have such a personal service. It's not easy these days to find a company like this that actually talks to you! Thank you so much.

I entrusted Supaphoto with preserving my entire family archive of over 2,500 assets. The project included loose prints, 35mm slides, mouldy VHS tape restoration, and full photo album scanning. They worked quickly and carefully, completing this massive undertaking in under three months. I was thrilled to receive high-quality JPEG and TIFF image scans alongside AVI and MPEG video files, all meticulously organised into dated folders exactly as I requested. Most importantly, my original media was handled with the utmost care and returned safely and securely. Supaphoto is truly the best in the business, offering an invaluable service for preserving a lifetime of memories. Highly recommended! Thank you.

The UK’s No1 SD Drive to Digital Conversion Service

The service explanation video to the left introduces our SD card transfer service and includes sample transfers, giving you a clearer idea of how files can be moved from older storage media into a format that is easier to access, organise and preserve. If an SD card contains photographs, videos, documents or other important files, the aim is to transfer them carefully while keeping the process straightforward.

Our specialists have extensive experience transferring data from a range of digital storage media, including SD cards, USB devices, CDs and DVDs. We use reliable professional readers together with specialist error-correction technology to achieve accurate transfers and obtain the best possible result from the original media.

Once the files have been transferred, you can choose how you receive them. A digital download gives you direct access from your computer, while a USB stick provides a separate physical copy that can be stored safely or used across compatible devices.

If you also have files stored on larger digital media, our external drive transfer service may be useful for moving accessible data onto newer storage.

We take data security seriously throughout the transfer process. SD cards can contain personal photographs, videos and private documents, so files are handled confidentially and protected from unauthorised access while they are being processed.

Using a professional transfer service also avoids the need to buy specialist card readers, adapters or additional hardware, install drivers, or spend time managing the transfer yourself.

If you are deciding what to do with an older card before sending it in, our guide to preserving and transferring files from memory cards explains the safest next steps.

What you can Expect From Us & Advantages

When you send an SD card containing important photographs, videos or documents to Supaphoto, you want the process to feel clear, careful and reassuring. That starts with good old-fashioned customer service: you can speak to a real person if you have questions about your order, the condition of your card or the transfer process.

Our experienced UK-based technicians combine more than 20 years’ experience with careful handling of original media and multi-point quality assurance. We provide order updates and tracking for added peace of mind, aim for a fast turnaround, and return your original card once the work is complete.

Our charging is straightforward too. There is no charge for blank or untransferrable items, and there are no hidden annual cloud-storage subscriptions. If you prefer online access to your transferred files, optional cloud hosting is available. We also offer an advanced service option where a more specialist approach may help achieve a better outcome.

Supaphoto’s work extends beyond everyday customer orders. We support television production companies and programmes, including BBC’s The Repair Shop, as well as museums and institutions that entrust us with important original material. More than 600 genuine five-star customer-service reviews provide additional reassurance about the service customers receive.

If your card has become unreadable rather than simply needing transfer, our service for retrieving data from damaged memory cards may be more appropriate.

For practical guidance before sending your media, see our advice on recovering files from an inaccessible SD card and preserving files stored on memory cards.

We are really proud to be an ongoing technical partner to the TV Production Company behind for the BBC’s Repair Shop and have worked on multiple programmes.

More Help & Guidance

SD cards are widely used in cameras and other portable devices, but they are not ideal as the only long-term home for important photographs, videos and documents. Moving those files onto newer storage makes them easier to access, organise and back up. The guidance below explains the practical benefits of transferring an SD card, how to place an order, the difference between digital download and USB, and what to avoid if the card is becoming unreliable.

Benefits of Choosing an SD Card Transfer Service

A professional SD card transfer service is useful when you want to move valuable files away from ageing or less convenient removable media without spending time managing the process yourself.

The main benefit is simplicity. Instead of sourcing card readers, checking compatibility and manually copying folders, you can have the files transferred onto a modern storage option that is easier to use across current devices.

This can be particularly helpful if you have older cards containing family photographs, camcorder clips or documents that have not been accessed for years. Transferring the data also gives you the opportunity to create additional backups rather than relying on a single card.

If the card itself has become unreadable or files have disappeared, our service for retrieving data from problematic memory cards may be more appropriate than a straightforward transfer.

How to Place an Order

Start by identifying the SD card or cards you want transferred and, if practical, note what they contain. You do not need to reorganise the files before sending them.

If the card is working normally, avoid making unnecessary changes immediately before transfer. If it is behaving strangely, disappearing from your computer or showing errors, stop using it and mention those symptoms when ordering.

Package small cards securely so they cannot move around or slip out of the parcel. Include the information needed to identify your order and any particular requests about how you would like the transferred files supplied.

If you have several different memory cards, they can be labelled to help distinguish the contents. Our guide to preserving and transferring files from memory cards provides useful background if you are preparing older media for transfer.

For further order information, see our additional questions about the service.

A Straightforward Transfer Process

You do not need specialist computer knowledge to have an SD card transferred. The aim is to make the process simple: send the original media, choose how you want the files returned, and let the technical work be handled for you.

The data is read from the card and transferred into a modern digital form without requiring you to buy additional readers, install drivers or work through unfamiliar software.

Once the transfer is complete, the files can be accessed more easily on compatible computers and storage devices. Your original SD card is also returned.

This distinction matters: transfer and recovery are not the same service. If the card can still be read normally, transfer may be all that is needed. If the files are inaccessible, deleted or corrupted, recovery may require a different process.

Our guide to recovering data from older digital storage media explains that difference in more detail.

Digital Download or USB – What’s Best?

A digital download is a convenient choice if you want direct access to your transferred files on a computer. It allows you to save the files immediately onto your own storage system and then create further copies wherever you choose.

A USB stick gives you a separate physical copy. This may suit you if you prefer removable media or want a simple way to move photographs, videos or documents between compatible devices.

Neither option should ideally be your only long-term copy. Once the transfer is complete, it is sensible to keep the files in more than one place. For example, you might keep one copy on a computer and another on separate external storage.

If you also have files on other removable devices, our service for moving data from USB storage can help consolidate older digital media into more accessible storage.

SD Card Transfer Pricing Guidance

The cost of transferring an SD card can depend on the amount of data involved, the number of cards and whether the media can be read normally.

A straightforward working card is different from one that contains errors, corrupted files or damaged storage. If the card is unreadable, recovery work may be required rather than a normal transfer.

When comparing services, consider what is included rather than looking only at the headline price. Useful questions include how your files will be returned, whether the original card is returned and whether any additional storage charges apply.

It also helps to decide what outcome you want before ordering. Some customers simply want all files copied, while others want specific photographs, videos or folders preserved.

Supaphoto does not charge for blank or untransferrable items. For wider questions about orders and delivery, our frequently asked questions provide additional information.

Understanding SD Card Storage

SD cards can look similar while behaving differently depending on their age, capacity and condition.

SituationWhat it meansRecommended approach
Card works normallyFiles can usually be accessed directlyTransfer and create backups
Card is almost fullImportant files may still be present but space is limitedCopy data before adding more
Files have disappearedDeletion or corruption may be involvedStop writing new data
Device asks to format the cardExisting file structure may be inaccessibleAvoid formatting if files matter
Card is intermittently recognisedConnection or media problems may existMinimise further use
Card is physically damagedHardware may be affectedSeek specialist assessment

If photographs or videos on the card are particularly important, avoid relying on the card itself as the sole archive once the transfer is complete.

Video Learning Zone – SD Card Transfer Questions

What is the best way to transfer files from an old SD card?

If the card is working normally, the safest approach is to copy the files onto newer storage and create at least one additional backup. A professional transfer service is useful if you do not have the correct reader or would rather avoid managing the process yourself.

Can an SD card be transferred if my computer does not have a card slot?

Yes. A professional service removes the need for you to buy an external card reader or adapter.

What if the card cannot be read?

If the device cannot access the card, a standard transfer may not be enough. In that situation, recovery may be more appropriate. Our guide to retrieving files from an inaccessible SD card explains the next steps.

Should I keep using the original card after transfer?

You can retain it, but important files should not rely on one piece of removable media alone. Our guidance on preserving ageing digital media explains why additional copies are valuable.

Common SD Card Transfer Mistakes to Avoid

  1. Relying on one card as the only copy. SD cards are convenient storage devices, not a complete backup strategy.

  2. Continuing to use a card that is behaving unpredictably. Repeated use may complicate recovery if a fault is developing.

  3. Formatting when a device suggests it. If you still need the files, do not format the card before investigating the problem.

  4. Saving new photographs onto a card with missing files. New data may overwrite storage areas associated with deleted information.

  5. Failing to make another copy after transfer. Once valuable files have been moved, create additional backups in separate locations.

The most useful approach is to transfer important files while the card is still readable, keep the original media, and maintain more than one copy of anything you would not want to lose.
