More Help & Guidance
Choosing to scan photo albums to digital is one of the simplest ways to protect family memories from fading, accidental damage and everyday handling. Whether your albums contain holiday photographs, wedding pictures, childhood milestones or family history, professional digitalisation allows you to preserve them while making them much easier to enjoy and share with future generations.
Benefits of Choosing This Service
Professional photo album scanning combines careful handling with high-quality digital capture, helping you safeguard photographs without repeatedly removing them from their albums. This is particularly valuable for older collections where prints may be delicate or mounted onto ageing pages.
Once your album has been professionally digitised, your photographs become much easier to organise, duplicate and share with friends and relatives. Digital copies can also be used for reprints, displays and long-term archiving while allowing the original album to remain safely stored.
Many customers also have loose photographs, negatives or slides alongside their albums. Combining services such as professional photo scanning for individual prints allows an entire collection to be preserved in one project, creating a consistent digital archive that’s easier to browse and manage.
If you’re preparing a larger family archive, our guide to organising and scanning photo albums offers practical advice before sending your collection.
How to Place an Order
Getting started is designed to be straightforward. Simply choose the photo album scanning service that best matches your collection, securely package your albums and send or deliver them to Supaphoto for professional digitalisation.
Once your albums arrive, experienced technicians assess the collection before beginning the scanning process. Throughout production, every album is handled with care to preserve its original condition while producing high-quality digital copies suitable for viewing across modern devices.
After scanning, your completed images are supplied in your chosen digital format and your original albums are carefully returned to you. If you have questions before placing an order, our team is available to provide straightforward advice from a real person rather than an automated system.
Customers who are planning a larger preservation project may also find our article on how to preserve old photo albums useful when preparing valuable collections for digitisation.
Ease of Process
Many people postpone preserving old photographs because they expect the process to be complicated. In reality, professional photo album scanning removes much of the work. Instead of individually removing and scanning every photograph at home, your albums are professionally digitised using specialist equipment designed for high-quality results.
Digital copies make it simple to enjoy treasured memories on computers, tablets, televisions and digital photo frames, while also creating additional backups for future peace of mind. For families with albums collected over several decades, converting them into organised digital files makes searching, sharing and preserving memories significantly easier.
Digital Download or USB – What’s Best?
The best delivery option depends on how you intend to use your scanned photographs.
A digital download provides quick access from almost anywhere with an internet connection, making it convenient for sharing with family members or saving additional backups.
A USB drive offers a physical copy that’s easy to keep with your original albums or store safely at home. Many customers choose a USB because it can be connected directly to computers, televisions and compatible digital photo frames without relying on cloud storage.
Whichever option you select, professionally digitised photo albums provide a future-ready archive that helps preserve your family’s memories for years to come.
Pricing Guidance
The cost of scanning photo albums depends on factors such as the number of albums, the quantity of photographs, the album style and your preferred output format. Larger collections naturally require more scanning time, while specialist requests may also influence pricing.
When comparing services, it is worth considering more than the initial price. Professional equipment, careful handling, quality control and experienced technicians all contribute to producing digital copies that accurately preserve your memories. A professionally scanned archive can also save considerable time compared with scanning photographs individually at home.
If your collection includes damaged prints, faded photographs or images requiring enhancement after scanning, our professional photo restoration services can help recover photographs that may otherwise be difficult to enjoy again.
For larger family collections, our guide to bulk photo scanning projects explains how to prepare sizeable archives efficiently.

What is the best way to scan photo albums?
Professional scanning provides consistent image quality while reducing unnecessary handling of older albums. Specialist equipment is designed to capture clear digital copies suitable for archiving, sharing and future printing.
Should I remove photographs from my album first?
Unless instructed otherwise, many albums can be assessed and scanned without unnecessary removal of photographs. This helps minimise handling, particularly where pages or adhesive mounts have become fragile with age.
Can old albums still be digitised?
In many cases, yes. Albums of varying ages and conditions can often be professionally digitised, allowing treasured memories to be preserved before further deterioration occurs.
If your collection also includes slides or transparencies, our guide to choosing the right slide scanning approach explains how different photographic formats can be preserved together.
For broader advice on protecting family collections, visit our Digital Conversion Blog, where you’ll find practical articles on preserving photographs and other treasured media.
If you still have specific questions about the service, you’ll find additional answers in our More Questions About Photo Album Scanning section or browse our comprehensive Frequently Asked Questions.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Storing photographs without creating digital backups. Albums can deteriorate over time through light, moisture and everyday handling.
Attempting to scan large collections one page at a time at home. This is often far more time-consuming than expected and can produce inconsistent results.
Ignoring older or damaged albums. Preserving photographs sooner rather than later can help protect them before further fading or deterioration occurs.
Keeping only a single copy of your scanned images. Maintaining multiple copies on devices or backup storage provides additional peace of mind.
Overlooking mixed collections. Many family archives include loose prints, negatives and slides alongside albums. Preserving every format together creates a more complete and organised digital archive. For example, professional negative photo scanning allows film originals to be preserved alongside your digitised photo albums for a single, easy-to-manage collection.
More Questions About this Format
A: Our photo album scanning process is simple, secure, and handled by experienced technicians. You just send us your albums — we carefully scan each page or individual photo using professional flatbed scanners that capture high-resolution images without removing the photos from their mounts. After scanning, we adjust colours, brightness, and contrast to ensure each image looks sharp and natural. Once complete, your digital album files are saved to USB, download link, or DVD, and both your originals and digital copies are safely returned to you.
A: In most cases, we can scan your photos directly from the album, so you don’t have to remove or risk damaging them. Our equipment can scan through clear plastic sleeves and mounted pages without causing harm. However, if a photo is under reflective film or has become stuck, we may recommend a gentle removal to achieve the best scan quality — but we’ll always contact you first for approval.
A: We typically scan photo album images at 600 dpi or higher, depending on your needs. This resolution is perfect for viewing on modern screens and printing enlargements without any visible loss of detail. For professional archiving or editing, we also offer high-resolution options up to 1,200 dpi. Each image is individually assessed and adjusted to deliver optimal sharpness and colour accuracy.
A: To keep your albums protected during shipping, wrap each one in acid-free tissue paper or bubble wrap, and place them in a sturdy box with padding to prevent movement. Include your completed order form inside the box, then send your parcel to:
A: Yes — we carefully scan every visible photo in your album, even if sizes vary or some are partially overlapping. For tightly arranged albums, we may need to scan sections individually and crop them digitally to ensure no image is missed. You can choose whether you’d like each photo saved separately or full-page scans that preserve the original album layout.
A: Absolutely. Each page is scanned sequentially to maintain the exact order and layout of your album. If requested, we can even name folders or image files to match your album titles or themes (for example, “Holiday 1989” or “Wedding Album”). This way, your digital album copies are perfectly organised and easy to browse.
A: Yes — if you’d like, we can include scans of the album covers, handwritten captions, or decorative pages to preserve the look and feel of your original collection. This option is popular for those who want to keep a digital copy of the entire album, not just the photos inside.
A: In most cases, yes. If your photo albums have stuck or deteriorating pages, our team uses gentle methods to separate them safely and recover as many images as possible. We can also apply digital restoration to repair faded colours, creases, or stains once the scans are complete.
