Supaphoto Audio Sample

Over the years we’ve transcribed audio from many people and organisations. Spoken history is always something that fascinates us as the people of speak of events that affected them that to that point unknown.

This particular recording is from a French lady who recalls her first impressions after moving to England in 1946.

We’ve transcribed huge cassette collections from county councils in England to recording the history of people speaking in their own words that lived in a small village called Ditchling in Sussex over many years since they were very young.

Supaphoto's Vinyl To CD Digitising Advantages

Here are just a few of the reasons why people choose Supaphoto everyday. You won’t be disappointed.

Sussex University's Massive Collection of Bob Copper's Priceless English Folk Music

We were so proud to have been chosen by the University of Sussex to digitalise and convert their priceless collection of beautiful audio reel to reel magnetic recordings from Bob Copper. We’ve also scanned hundreds of images from Sir Richard Attenborough’s photo collection which he left to Sussex University.

Bob Copper, who has died aged 89, was a leading member of the famous singing Copper family of Rottingdean, East Sussex, and an important collector of English folksongs. His earliest musical memories were of sitting around the fire singing with his father, Jim, and his grandfather James Copper, who was born in 1845.

Moving From Vinyl to CD or MP3

If you’re anything like us, you’ll have a stack of old vinyls sitting somewhere gathering dust. Perhaps you’re thinking that it’s time to convert vinyl records to MP3 or CD?

But unlike us (we’re experts in this sort of thing!), you’re probably not sure how best to convert vinyl to CD or digital.

Luckily, you’re in the right place! We at Supaphoto love to transfer and digitise vinyl to mp3 – whether it’s 7-inch singles and LPs or the bigger more standard formats.

We only work with top-of-the-range equipment that delivers the best quality, and can work with all formats, even cassette vinyl to cd recorder. As we have such an eclectic taste in music, there’s no judgement from us, so you can bring in all your guilty pleasures to have them converted too!)

We can quickly convert your classic vinyl records to an audio CD or a digital file. We support 12″ vinyl LP’s played at 33rpm, 7″ 45rpm singles, 78rpm heirloom recordings and almost anything else that can be played on a record player! Our CD copies are easily played in most CD players or pc for that matter!

Some Vinyl Record History

Before you show a partner to copy vinyl to cd, you might already know that Thomas Edison, clever man that he was, invented the first phonograph in 1877. (as if power generation, motion pictures and the lightbulb were not enough!) It was also known as a gramophone record, LP record or most commonly known as a vinyl record. This old analogue format has a very long history and even though they are still manufactured on a small scale, they left the mainstream around 1991 along with their built in phono outputs to old tape recorders! So, if you have any sort of record you want to convert to CD, the most popular ones our audio technicians capture on a day-to-day basis are the 78s, 45s and 33s.

Bear in mind too that you could go into a booth and even pay to speak or sing for a minute or two and have it transcribed to a 78 many years ago.  To transfer vinyl records to cd was not an option then, but it is now and much more.  When we convert vinyl to CD, you will often receive a digital file produced by an experienced audio technician before undergoing our extensive quality control process then copy vinyl to CD.

You will find that your oldest vinyl LP records are your 78s. They were developed initially. They were followed by the 33s and the 45s. These numbers by the way  refer to their rotational speed, or RPM, not their size. (rpm is an abbreviation for ‘revolutions per minute’ by the way. Many people have quite large record collections because vinyl was so popular through the 70s and 80s.

Can you Transfer Vinyl Records to CD?

You bet we can!, you can easily transfer your cassette, reel-to-reel or vinyl to CD with our quality audio transfer service. We will take your analogue media and professionally transfer it to a digital audio CD format. Where it will be easier to enjoy, play and adapt to 21st century technology. You can put the CD into your pc and transfer it to iTunes to play on your iPod in the usual way.

We start by cleaning your records, checking for any damage, dust and other debris. Depending on the condition of the record, it’s then cleaned as best as possible using vinyl cleaning methods.  We can also optionally store your vinyl (possibly permanently) in one of our anti-scratch and anti-static lined protective record sleeves.

Rest assured that there are no shortcuts; everything analogue being transferred to digital has to be first recorded in real-time, edited in most cases to ensure the sound file is of a good standard. Generally you will get approx 80 minutes of audio onto a CD, or more if you have the CD in an MP3 format. You will need a Hi-Fi system or CD player that will manage your MP3 disc (a PC or DVD player will usually do this but not always…) or a pc/laptop.

Record cleaning for all Vinyl to CD transfers

Want to Clean a Vinyl Record?

Even a brand new vinyl record benefits from a deep clean prior to use.

The main reason is that release agents are used when the original manufacturer presses the vinyl records in production, allowing the vinyl literally to ‘unstick’ from the metal press stamps, and quite often a residue of a waxy substance is found in the grooves of the new record. Deep cleaning will remove this. Records that have been played build up dust and debris from the air held by static over the surface, incorrect storage and handling also contribute to a build up of dirt deep in the grooves of a disc so deep cleaning will most certainly assist in producing a better recording from your records and will further extend the life of your stylus.
